Fold & Blade has been cutting hair on Cross Street since 2014. Four chairs, no appointment needed in the mornings, and a price list on the wall that has not had a hidden extra added to it yet.

What we cut

Dry cut and restyle

Clippers, scissors or both. Twenty five minutes for a tidy up of something you already like, forty if you want it changed and want to talk it through first.

Skin fades and tapers

Zero to a blend, done properly rather than quickly. Ollie and Sam do most of these and they book out about ten days ahead, so plan for it.

Beard trim and shape

Line up, shape and a hot towel finish. On its own or added to a cut for $12 more, which is the combination most of our regulars end up on.

Hot towel wet shave

Traditional straight razor, three towels, forty minutes and no rushing. Not available on Saturdays because the shop is too busy to do it justice.

Colour and highlights

Greys blended, full colour, and highlights in the salon chair at the back. Anything involving bleach needs a patch test 48 hours before, with no exceptions.

Children and first haircuts

Under twelves are $18 and get the chair by the window with the mirror they can watch themselves in. First haircuts include a photo and a bit of the hair in an envelope if you want it.

Marcus Fold

Owner. Nineteen years barbering, opened this shop in 2014. Classic cuts, wet shaves and anything involving a razor.

Ollie Nkemdirim

Fades, tapers and afro hair. Trained in Birmingham, here since 2018, and the reason we book out ten days ahead.

Sam Reilly

Barber. Scissor work and restyles. Good with people who arrive not knowing what they want.

Priya Kaur

Salon chair. Colour, highlights and grey blending. Also does the patch tests, so ring her two days before.

Walk in or book, and what the difference is

Mornings, from opening until 12:30, the shop is walk-in only. Come in, give your name at the desk, and you will usually be in a chair inside half an hour. Saturday mornings are the exception and can run to an hour, so if you are on a tight schedule that is the day to book.

Afternoons and evenings are booked appointments. You can request a particular barber, and we will tell you honestly how far out they are rather than quietly putting you with someone else. If your barber has left, we will say so when you ring instead of letting you find out in the chair.

Questions we get asked at the desk

Do I need to book?

Not before 12:30, when the shop is walk-in only. After that it is appointments. Saturdays are busy all day, so booking is worth it even in the morning.

How long is the wait for a walk-in?

Usually 20 to 30 minutes on a weekday morning and up to an hour on a Saturday. Ring the shop and whoever picks up will tell you what the wait is right now rather than guessing.

Do you cut afro and textured hair?

Yes. Ollie trained on textured hair and does most of it, so ask for him when you book. If you have a specific pattern or a particular set of clippers you prefer, say so and we will work to it.

What if I need to cancel?

Just ring or message and there is no charge. We only ask for a $10 deposit from someone who has missed two booked appointments without telling us, and it comes off the price of the cut.

Is there parking?

Two hours free in the Cross Street car park behind the shop, and metered spaces on the street itself. The multi-storey on Weald Road is a four minute walk and cheaper if you are staying longer.

Can you do a first haircut for a toddler?

Yes, and we would rather you booked the first slot after lunch when the shop is at its quietest. Bring a snack. If they will not sit in the chair we will cut them on your lap, and if it goes badly we will not charge you for what we managed.
